Academic Projects

Since 1985, following the establishment of the Center for Area Studies in 1984 (which evolved into KIEAS in 2003), two academic projects have been launched annually in constant succession and carried out over a two-year time frame, with four projects underway at any given time. This has been possible with the generous financial support from the Takahashi Industrial and Economic Research Foundation. In 2008, the four projects in progress include: "Transformation of a Regional Order on the Korean Peninsula" (Project Leader: Prof. Masao Okonogi, Faculty of Law); "Globalization and Transformation of Public Awareness in East Asia" (Prof. Hiroo Fujita, Faculty of Letters); "Historical Analysis of Market Order and Institutions in China" (Prof. Kazuko Furuta, Faculty of Economics); "Images of Regions in Modern China" (Prof. Eishi Yamamoto, Faculty of Letters).
